Ideas worth sharing… TEDx Folkestone 2018

I’m thrilled to hear that I’ve been selected to speak at TEDxFolkestone 2018. The theme of this event is Courage to Step Beyond.

This is an exciting opportunity. I started my career as an Enterprise Architect in part because I was inspired by the ideas of Richard Saul Wurman – who created and chaired the TED conference from 1984 to 2002. It feels like completing a circle – starting with RSW’s ideas about information anxiety and the business of understanding, through to speaking at TED.

I’m not going to be talking about enterprise architecture… the idea which I believe is worth sharing is that we all have more than one personality or self, depending on the situation and the people we are with. Society and cultural norms put pressure on us to be ourselves… but the focus tends to be on one dominant self… and this is often to the detriment of our selves. So how do we become the best version of our selves? How can we be all of our selves, without losing one or more of them along the way?
